The Whys and Wherefores Behind the Hiatt Family 2008 Calendar:

In November we went with Jarom, Linda and Amber to see Boulder Falls. Near the place where we parked our car we discovered this rock with a hole in it and the kids had fun playing and climbing on it. I had another cover all ready for the calendar, but I decided to use this picture instead.
I asked Hannah to design a flag for our family and she came up with this basic concept with pencil and paper.
The inspiration behind this picture was the picture I took of Peter (right) back in February. I came up with the idea of having the kids popping up out of holes, and then dug through our candid shots to find ones of the others that could be adapted to look like they were in holes. Steven came up with the text for this one.
We had this old rustic picture frame hanging around in our play room. It was my idea to have the kids pose behind the frame, and the kids really had fun with it.
The kids were monkeys for Halloween in 2007. Grandma Hiatt made the costumes for them and naturally we had to take pictures of the kids monkeying around in them. I drew the background.
Three of these pictures were candid shots taken throughout the year. One was posed because Josh didn't have any pictures silly enough to fit on the page with the others.
I took the picture below of Peter and then started playing with it. I think this is my favorite.

I got lots of pictures of John diving into the swimming pool this summer and loved how he got so far out before he belly flopped in.

Josh came up with this idea on his own. He found a rubber band lying around and put it on his face and Steven got such a kick out of it we had to take a picture. Steven came up with the text.
This picture of Hannah was taken at Chuck-E-Cheeses when Grandma Hiatt came out for her baptism. I loved the intense expression on her face and had to do something with it. The pictures in the background were photos and drawings from years past. (You can see the clock and hourglass pictures close up in MaeLyn's Art Studio)
This picture started out as just Josh in his vampire teeth. I drew his outfit from scratch. Eventually we took pictures of the other kids one Sunday Evening and they were added in. Josh likes the version of this picture where Hannah has blue hair and looks a bit like Marge Simpson.
This Clue Game was based on an old Master Detective Clue Game. I like the concept, but I don't like that the kid's pictures are only a small part of the overall picture. I did  make an entire Clue game board with rooms from our house, pictures of the kids and even some tools (a pair of scissors, a toy wrench, a pencil...) The kids posed for these pictures, hence the suspicious expressions on their faces.
John is at a stage in life where he loves "Where's Waldo" and "I Spy" books. Many of these pictures were candid, and many were taken with this picture in mind. The idea was to cram as many photos of the kids as possible into one picture.  Once again, Steven is responsible for the text.
